Alcohol-ether concentrate (AEC) is a by-product in the manufacturing of butyl alcohols and 2-ethylhexanol, a mixture of C4 and C8 (up to 60%) aliphatic alcohols containing traces of ethers, aldehydes and higher boiling components. It is used as a solvent and a multifunctional oxygenate additive to improve petrol resistance to autoignition and phase stability of alcohol–petrol blends, and in other applications.
